week 1 orientation

Week one went pretty well. I arrived Sunday afternoon. I had to get situated at South Hall George Washington University in Washington D.C. However, week 1 was very stressful. I had to go to an unfamiliar city and learn all about the streets and different sections. I enjoyed learning about a new city but it was stressful in the beginning. The first day during orientation week was fun, even though the subway riding took some getting used to. The subway transportation system was a culture shock for me considering the fact that I grew up in the country side and not the big city.

The second day of orientation was interesting because it was the first day that I actually rode the subway. It was scary at first, but then I adjusted to it fine. Later that day I did group work on the disabilities book that I read for the AAPD meeting. Then on Wednesday I had some delicious breakfast items at some fancy building that the AAPD was held at. I had to dress up and wear a suite and tie which I loved. I then presented the group work I did along with my other group members. My group and I presented to an audience on the civil rights act of deaf people. Then  I got to meet my mentor which was a lot of fun.
The next day on thursday, the AAPD met up at the same place where the AAPD group and I listened to important professionals speak about their experience in the field of public policy.

Overall, I liked the orientation week. There was a lot to offer. I learned a lot and it was fun.  I was satisfied with the orientation week meetings and felt satisfied with the amount of information that was given to help make my stay in Washington D.C a great one.
